Sometimes all we want to do is sit and relax without any need to get up and go. At other times, however, there is a wanderlust in us that can’t be shaken off until you hop in the car and see what lies beyond the horizon. There are the shorter “day trips” that take you somewhere relatively close by to see something new, and then there are the trips that take you further afield and require a place to sleep for one or more nights. You don’t want to be on the road for hours and hours every day, so it’s a good idea to break your trips into bite-sized bits. That way, rather than becoming car-fatigued, you can take the time to enjoy the journey as well as the destination.
Encinitas works as a perfect jumping-off point to find both day trips and longer road trips out into all areas of California and beyond. If you are not from the area but planning on moving here, then an Encinitas realtor who specializes in condos in Encinitas, which are plentiful, can help you on your journey here. That way, once you’re settled, you can journey beyond and always have a gorgeous place to come back to.
Day trips
As a general rule, a day trip is somewhere you can go to and return from the same day, with enough time in between to enjoy your destination. Encinitas is located between two large metropolitan areas, Los Angeles and San Diego, but detached enough so that you don’t feel like you are ensnared in all of the business that a big city brings. One of the things that people love about living here is the ability to go to the bigger cities and take advantage of them, but leave them behind to get back to their cozy condo in Encinitas.

San Diego is a great choice for city day trips due to its proximity to Los Angeles. The city is home to
San Diego Zoo, which has a reputation the world over for its diversity and funding. With thousands of animals across hundreds of species, this is easily one of the best zoos in North America. Although Mexican food is good everywhere in California, thanks to San Diego’s closeness to the Mexico border, you will find some of the greatest Mexican food options outside of Mexico itself. For beautiful beaches, shopping, and activities to suit all tastes, cross the bridge to visit
Coronado Island.

Although a bit further afield, Los Angeles can still be a great day trip provided you plan it to avoid the worst traffic times. Los Angeles is a world-class city that is full of energy and excitement, making it one of the entertainment capitals of the world. There is plenty to do in LA, and its restaurants will stun you with their hybrid varieties of fusion cuisine. On the way back from LA, you will find some of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world, and a stop in
Laguna Beach or
Dana Point is practically a given. Your Encinitas realtor will also be able to draw on their expertise to give you some local tips.

Many Californians enjoy taking in a spot of history by visiting the missions that dot the landscape north and south. This beautiful eighteenth-century mission, with its Roman arches and on-site museum, is not to be missed, and with your own condo in Encinitas, you are at a wonderful point to start your journey.
Mission San Luis Rey de Francia is a quick drive from Encinitas and a great place to pack a lunch and tour the mission grounds, all the while soaking up some of California’s rich history. Californians, both those born here and those who come here, will often make a checklist of all the historic missions in the state, and visit them one by one.
Only a half-hour drive away from your Encinitas condo is La Jolla, where you can take in the paragliders at
Torrey Pines Gliderport, do some hiking or snorkeling at
La Jolla Ecological Preserve, or visit the sea lions at
La Jolla Cove. While you’re in the area, make sure you grab a smoked salmon benedict for brunch at
Barbarella, a roasted pear and burrata salad for lunch at
Nine-Ten, or make reservations for an elegant dinner of Baja California swordfish or filet mignon with a perfectly paired wine selection at
The Marine Room.
Further away
If you have a hankering to take a trip further on, there are many options for you to explore the western United States. A few of the greatest options are
Las Vegas,
Palm Springs to see
Coachella,
Joshua Tree National Park, or the ever-fascinating and perennially gorgeous and mysterious
Grand Canyon in Arizona. Because you have literally three thousand miles before you reach the Atlantic Ocean, the possibilities are endless, and depending on the time of year, you are able to venture north into the Pacific Northwest or to the great plains states to the east.
